LIGHT/DARK MODE

Media literacy: When a point is taken

  • 'It Ends With Us' may have a bad ending as director Justin, and Blake Lively seem to be feuding. It never ends well (literally), when the main character is also the director. There is also something to say about sensitivities when doing publicity for a film centered around domestic abuse - so why is Blake Lively campaigning for her new haircare range (yes, the hair was fab in the film, so what)? There are so many issues with the film's publicity, and this is just as important, maybe even more important than the film itself. Think about Bridgerton S3, Nicola Coughlan and Luke Newton did the utmost to draw in viewers, respectfully. Surely with a movie so sensitive and important, especially to domestic survivors, Lively would turn her entire conversation towards that? Maybe empathy is not a given. Let's hope actors learn from this atrocity and present themselves for publicity - they are ACTORS after all.
  • The world crumbles now that Molly-Mae and Tommy are over. Internet relationships are an integral part of media, why? I guess we take inspiration when they unravel their lives to us. We can yearn for a relationship like theirs especially if it's presented authentically which often RARELY happens. We think we know Molly-Mae like a best friend: we know her relationship, her journey, her strengths and weaknesses. So when something unexpected happens, we blame Tommy (obvi), because we truly know Molly-Mae and side with her, like we've done since Love Island.
  • Kamala Harris is very demure, very approachable, very considerate.
  • Raygun (Australian Breakdancer) purposefully sought out a reaction from the public. I mean, her PhD thesis was on gender in the Breakdancing scene. The worldwide response is her ploy for qualitative data. I can't wait to see what she does next—intelligent woman.

The internet is a strange place and the landscape will change again next week, no doubt!
