This segment is inspired by Jean Dubuffet's art brut movement, displayed at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art.
Raw art is made by real people, often the periphery of society. Here you will find the most authentic art made in times of excitement, boredom, passion, longing and anger. Enjoy these pieces from our fabulous contributing artist and myself.

WAITING FOR MAGIC by Rosa-Lee O'Reilly
Accompanying words by Rosa: There are frequent rainbows outside my window — A promise of something magical? I think so. And so, I wait And I dream For something magical to happen — To get that job, to find that love, to earn that money These rainbows re-appear (maybe it’s humidity) Magic is coming, I think. But it’s not coming quick enough. I engage in distraction in my frustration — I put pen to paper
I take myself on a walk
I listen to the tui sing
I ask my neighbour how they are doing
I watch the water lap inwards and outwards
I feel the dirt in the garden
I share coffee with those I love
I notice the bumblebee and its harmonies
I continue to see rainbows everywhere
And not by chance, nor humidity —
but by serendipity
because the magic I wait for
is already here.

MARTINI TIME by Haley |
Moral of the story: Art is vulnerable and important and valid. It exists everywhere and not just by those who have degrees or accolades. Thank you to the beautiful Rosa for her craft xx
