The Importance Of Coquette Fashion 🎀

Pearls and ribbons, charmeuse and egg-shell linens, tiered ruffles and florals make an ideal cupcake wardrobe, or coquette-fashion as Gen Z call it. The trending coquette fashion nods to the Victorian Era as ladies sit down on embroidered chairs, sipping tea from porcelain china and gossiping about their upper-class nemeses. Women love rebranding and repeating history – it’s why we cut our hair, go back to exes and walk the sadness plank. Queen Victoria was a ruthless Anglican, she believed in morals and classism, keeping people in their rightful places of poor and rich. It’s no wonder women found themselves exasperating femininity in search of an ideal husband.

Coquette-fashion is very on par with The Important Of Being Earnest - a witty play obsessed with appearances and finding that one true love. This play emanates baby blues, pale pinks, cremes and soft lilacs; a perfect homonym for a young woman’s bedspread. Retreating to the Victorian Era in the 21st Century is not just in the fashion; women have made executive decisions to stay home and raise children, we are writing and reading at an admirable pace, gossip is at every corner, and heterosexual weddings are happening every day. It seems that each living room is not complete without a tea-trolley-turned-bar-cart, an art gallery wall, indoor plants, frilly throws, and crystal flutes.

On the other hand, women are competing against their femininity and masculinity in a world that beckons for independence and appearances. More women are keeping their maiden names in the workplace, detaching themselves from their husbands to work the ladder, and using their married names in their personal life. This shift looks at women viewing themselves as two entities: a headfast career woman and a wife. A half-up-half-down do pinned with a gigantic silk bow, a chiffon dress and mauve pumps are small rebellions and reminders to the world that women can be everything, all the time, all at once. Coquette fashion tips it’s brimmed hat to all the women who have come before us. May we prance through the sitting room at midday and slow down just enough to “display signs of triviality” – Lady Bracknell, The Importance Of Being Earnest.
